Late April on the road - Part Two…

Our first full day in Aberlady started poorly; we woke up to the wonderful sounds of ‘rain on a tin roof’, but it was not quite what we hoped for! However, the forecast was for sunshine in the afternoon. So we had a lazy start enjoying a cup of morning tea (note: no more Cups o’ Java for me!) and then a shower to freshen up before getting ready to jump the bus to North Berwick. As it happened, the bus stopped at the campsite entrance, and we were soon being whisked along the coastal road from Aberlady east towards North Berwick, the only passengers on the entire 25-minute journey!

Once off the bus, we wandered around the town getting our bearings and saw fabulous beaches, the Bass Rock, the Seabird and Lifeboat centres and found a great cafe, appropriately called ‘Cake’, where we had a cup of magnificent tea and ‘to-die-for’ carrot cake, all the while being drenched in glorious mid-April sunshine! Then, after some more perambulating around town, we fortuitously found ourselves back at the bus stop just before our bus was due. Timing is everything, they say!

When we were back in Aberlady, we walked along the main street and found the Leddie Hotel where we sat outside in the intermittent fading sunshine and enjoyed a well-earned quaff! Afterwards, it was a short fifteen minute walk back to the campsite for our second, and last night, before moving on in the morn to our next stop: Slatebarns campsite, adjacent to the (now world-famous) Rosslyn Chapel.
