Iona’s Song of the Week - No 9

Over the bank holiday weekend, Iona attended the Long Road Festival. This annual music festival celebrates Country Music and Americana and is located on the grounds of Standford Hall, south of Leicester. The acts we were keen to see included American Aquarium, the Red Clay Strays, Pokey Lafarge and John Baumann, to name a few, and in addition, we caught some of the other acts, like Don McLean, the National Parks and Kyle Daniel, out of the 70 odd acts on the ‘roster’!

This week’s song is performed by American Aquarium, who hail from Raleigh, North Carolina and have been on the go since 2006. We first saw the band in a small basement of a pub in Glasgow late in 2023, and, surprisingly, in our opinion, they did not perform this song at the Long Road! The song comes from their 2010 album Small Town Hymns and is the opening track entitled Hurricane. It is also has that classic ‘boom-chicka-boom’ beat, that we so love around here!

Loved this song, and I get the boom-chika-boom thing!
