If I ever get the chance to choose a song for the Juke Box, this week's choice is a favourite of mine! It was released on November 14, 1983, so again, we are digging into the past, and it was created by a great Glasgow band from back in the day. It features a bass line consisting of a single note (D) throughout which was created by the band’s bass player, and the words were written by the lead singer. The lyrics were an inspiration from a walk along the River Clyde in the summer of 1983, watching the decline of the shipyard industry in his native Glasgow, they express a feeling of hope and rebirth.

As a passing note, the lead singer was in the same class as a friend of mine, and later in life I got to meet the bass player often and I know his brother very well! The singer is Jim Kerr, the bass player is Derek Forbes, the band is Simple Minds, and the song is the magnificent On the Waterfont from the band’s sixth album Sparkle in the Rain. Enjoy…..
Just love that bass intro!
