2025 has arrived, and with it comes a plethera of songs. Some new, some familiar, some old, but, hopefully, all enjoyable! We shall see…..
As with the final choice of ‘24, the first of ’25 also posed its selection difficulties. However, fortunately, Iona was up to the task and the chosen tune is another genre we love around here. The ‘boogie woogie’ piano sound! We first encountered it on a collection of Amos Milburn tracks, introduced to us by the late, great John Peel. and then we enjoyed Jools Holland’s take on the style. However, this week’s song comes from a Kent (England) born (1962) pianist who has gone on to perform with the likes of Clapton, Bonnie Rait and Taj Mahal.
We first encountered Jon Cleary last year when we came across his Swanee River Boogie from his 2023 album So Swell and it was love at first…..By the way, you should also check out the English actor/musician Hugh Laurie’s song called Swanee River….. Who knows, it may well be featured somewhere down the road too!
